One of Canada’s largest governmental departments gets help with a major service modernization program

Legacy technology replaced with a modern solution by subject matter experts from S.i. System

Client

S.i. Systems had been working with this client, one of the Government of Canada’s largest and most regionally dispersed departments (with over 600 points of service across the country). After several years and an extensive history of successful partnerships, we were awarded additional contracts to deliver both Technical and Functional SAP Professional Services to this key initiative in 2013.

Challenge

The client was undertaking a major service modernization program to integrate IT Management, Case Management, Imaging, Workload Management, Data & Analytics, and Contact Centres. This was a Major Crown Project, meaning a heightened level of oversight, public scrutiny, and risk.

The client wanted to implement a client-centred service model and needed to standardize business processes for HR, Finance, IT and Security. The focus of this project was integrating SAP and PeopleSoft ERP systems in a multi-tenant environment. This included development of a Corporate Data Warehouse, SAP Business Warehouse, and SAP Transaction System, as well as a supporting ERP Centre of Excellence.

Solution

The client was concerned with rising operational costs due to process inefficiencies, legacy systems, and increasing service volumes. They decided to replace legacy technology with a modern solution – and needed subject matter expertise in SAP, as well as in the underlying client/server architecture and integrations with PeopleSoft, to work with their employees and other third-party resources. This client needed continuity of service throughout this multi-year, multi-release initiative: and S.i. Systems successfully delivered this service for over 6 years.

S.i. Systems provided contract staffing services in the specializations of project management, systems analysis, architecture, and development.

Outcomes

After successful completion of the deliverables from the first supply arrangement, we were awarded the 2nd iteration of both contracts in 2016/17. The ERP solution was successfully moved to stable operations across the enterprise and S.i. Systems’ resources continued to work on improvement, stabilization, enhancement, and upgrade projects, including the migration to S4/HANA.
